ATV Tyre Size Guide: What to Send Before You Call

The quickest way to get the right ATV tyres, at the right price, with availability confirmed, is to have a few key details ready before you get in touch. Ninety percent of the time it starts with one thing: your ATV tyre size. Read it off the sidewall, send it over, and the Redstone team can check stock and match you to the right tyre straight away - no back-and-forth, no guesswork.

This short guide shows you where to find your tyre size, how to read it, and exactly what to send us so we can help you fast.

Where to Find Your ATV Tyre Size

Your tyre size is printed on the sidewall - the flat outer face of the tyre. It is moulded into the rubber, usually as a bold set of numbers, and it is the same information whatever the make of tyre. Give the sidewall a wipe if it is caked in mud and the numbers will be easy to read.

One important point for ATVs: the front and rear tyres are often different sizes. Check all four, because you may need to give us two sizes rather than one.

How to Read an ATV Tyre Size

Most ATV tyres use an imperial size format with three numbers, like 25x8-12. Here is what each part means:

  • 25 - the overall height (diameter) of the tyre in inches
  • 8 - the width of the tyre in inches
  • 12 - the rim (wheel) diameter in inches

So 25x8-12 is a tyre roughly 25 inches tall and 8 inches wide, fitting a 12-inch wheel. You will sometimes see the width written with decimals - for example 25x10.00-12 - which means the same thing. A typical quad might run 25x8-12 on the front and 25x10-12 on the rear, the wider tyre giving more grip and flotation at the back.

These days you are just as likely to see a metric size, similar to a car tyre - for example 205/80-12. Metric sizing has become more and more common on ATVs, to the point where it is now a fairly even split with the imperial format, so it is worth being able to read both.

  • 205 - the width of the tyre in millimetres
  • 80 - the aspect ratio (the sidewall height as a percentage of the width)
  • 12 - the rim (wheel) diameter in inches

Whichever format your tyre uses, just send it exactly as it appears on the sidewall - or send a photo - and we will match it for you.

What Else to Send Us

The size gets us most of the way there. To match you to the right tyre first time and confirm availability, it helps to include a few more details if you have them:

  • Front and rear sizes: If your front and rear tyres differ, send both, and tell us how many of each you need.
  • Quantity: One, a pair, or a full set of four - so we can check we have enough in stock.
  • Machine make and model: Useful as a cross-check and helpful if a sidewall is worn and hard to read.
  • How you use the machine: Mostly mud and fields, hard tracks, towing, or a mix. This tells us whether to point you toward an aggressive pattern or a harder-wearing all-rounder.
  • Ply rating (if visible): Often shown near the size (e.g. 6PR). Matters if you carry heavy loads or tow.

Do not worry if you cannot find all of this - the size alone is enough to get started. Everything else just helps us get it right first time.

A Quick Tip: Take a Photo

If in doubt, the easiest thing of all is to take a clear photo of the sidewall showing the numbers and send that over. It saves you deciphering the markings, and it lets us read the full specification directly. A photo of each different tyre on the machine covers everything in one go.

What Happens Next

Once we have your size, the Redstone team will check availability and match you to the right tyre for your machine and how you use it - including premium options like the Deli Maxi Grip and Redwing Venturer for working quads that need durability and grip. We will confirm what is in stock and get it on its way, with next-day delivery available on stocked items.

We would rather help you get the right tyre than sell you the wrong one, so if your size or usage suggests a different option would serve you better, we will tell you.
