After 72 years of trading, RH Claydon officially announced that they were ceasing operations at the end of 2025. The news marked the close of one of the UK’s longest-standing family-owned tyre wholesalers — a business that had been a fixture in the industry since 1953.
At Redstone, we wanted to take a moment to acknowledge what the Claydon family built and to thank them for their decades of service to the UK tyre trade.
A Family Business Built on Service
RH Claydon was founded by Roy Claydon in 1953, starting life as a local garage in Suffolk before evolving into a nationwide tyre wholesaler. Over seven decades, the business grew to operate multiple warehouses across the UK, serving many in the industry with a broad range of products — from TBR and PCR, to agricultural, turf and tubes.
Under the leadership of Michael Claydon and successive generations of the family, the business earned a reputation for reliable service and deep product knowledge. Their decision to wind down the company following Michael’s retirement was, as the family put it, “not made lightly” — a sentiment that speaks to the care and commitment they brought to the business throughout its history.
To the Claydon family and everyone who worked at RH Claydon over the years: thank you for your contribution to our industry. Seventy-two years of trading is an achievement that deserves recognition, and we wish you all the very best for the future.
